Women’s Employment Journeys in the Middle East

The Carlsberg Foundation Project

Project Aims & Thematic Focus

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Arab and Muslim-Majority Countries

This pillar explores how DEI principles are understood, implemented, and negotiated in Arab and Muslim-majority contexts. It examines the cultural, institutional, and organizational dynamics that shape inclusive employment practices for women across the region.

Women in Family-Owned Businesses

This pillar investigates the unique challenges and opportunities women face within family-owned enterprises, a dominant business structure in the Middle East. This strand highlights how gender roles, family expectations, and business succession impact women’s career journeys.

Transfer and Development of DEI in Danish Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) in Saudi Arabia

Focuses on how Danish MNEs translate and localize their global DEI strategies within the Saudi context. This pillar investigates how these companies transfer expertise, adapt workplace inclusion policies, and support women’s professional advancement in a cross-cultural setting.

Mission

Our mission is to explore, document, and critically analyze the diverse employment journeys of women in the Middle East.
